I have walked many paths and held many roles. Writer, actor, secretary, performer, activist, theater producer, influencer, infertility warrior, wife, mother. Through it all: Witch.

I was born in the South and raised in the Pacific Northwest, functionally Roman Catholic, but influenced by Southern Baptist relatives (straight from the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains). I have spoken to the dead and dreamed prophetic dreams for as long as I can remember. When I was 15, I picked up a Tarot deck at a slumber party and began doing readings. At that party, someone said, “You’re good at this.” Around the same time, I split from my Christian roots and developed what I called “Courtney-ism,” a religion that believed in following one’s own path while being respectful to the paths of others, being in communion with nature, honoring a gender-less Deity that was more of an energy than a Guy-In-The-Sky, and embracing Magickal spells. Then I read a book about Witchcraft and said, “Oh. I’m not a Courtney-ist. I’m a Witch! And there are lots of people like me!” At 20 years old, I embraced Witchcraft as my path in spirit and life. 

While living in New York City, I formed one of the largest Witchcraft communities in the Tri-State area. I began writing about Goddesses in order to help people build their connections with them. I started out reading Tarot for friends, at arts events, and burlesque shows; a side-gig that quickly became a career. I eventually returned to Portland, OR to start my family and build Magickal tools to share.

I am the author of Hekate: Goddess of Witches; The Morrigan: Celtic Goddess of Magick and Might; Brigid: History, Mystery, and Magick of the Celtic Goddess; Tarot for One: The Art of Reading for Yourself; Sacred Tears: A Witch’s Guide to Grief and Pentacle: The Shape of Power. In my thirty years of experience with Tarot, I have read for thousands of clients worldwide. Collectively, my books have sold nearly 100,000 copies in multiple countries. 

I guide my days by the stars, but my life by science. I believe the Gods are collections of human experience, but are cognizant and want us to thrive. I believe Spirits and Ancestors walk among us and may offer us wisdom…but are not always right! 

I believe we have the power to shape our destiny. I want to help people unlearn thought patterns shaped by religious trauma. I believe in creating spaces of hope, joy, and sacred silliness. I believe in you.

Tarot

I began reading Tarot at the age of 15. Since then, I have gained an international clientele base and teach workshops on the Tarot on both coasts.

My readings are predominantly spiritual in nature. 

Tarot is a powerful tool of self-reflection. It will never tell you anything you don’t already know…but it gives you the chance to acknowledge it.

Can it tell the future? Possibly, but with about as much accuracy as a weatherperson with tomorrow’s forecast!

Tarot allows you to examine the patterns under which you are living and can predict a reasonable outcome of future based on as the pattern set, just like your local meteorologist! But just the weather forecast can change or vary wildly, so do life’s events.
