Reversals Can Be Maddening.
They can confuse even the most seasoned reader! But with enough practice, they can offer keen insight into not just the outcome, but the mindset of the querent.
In General, Reversed Cards Mean:
- Areas being blocked
- Things being suppressed
- Things not being as bad (or good) as they seem
But the position of a Reversed card, and where its key character or tools point, gives us more insight:
Let’s revisit “Jenny’s” reading from last week. Click here for original post. Jenny was curious about where her career was going. As you can see, she had quite a few Reversed cards:
The summation of the reading was that Jenny wasn’t happy with her work. The Reversed cards tell us even more. Notice the following:
The Page of Wands Reversed faces away from 10 of Pentacles, and it’s facing the 6 of Swords Reversed. The Page is looking away from the money card represented by the 10 of Pentacles, and towards the 6 of Swords Reversed, card of travel and change. Likewise, because it is Reversed, the 6 of Swords is facing even further away from the money. Jenny may be so burned out on her job and want something so radically different that she is willing to take a big pay cut.
The 6 of Wands Reversed faces away from the Queen of Cups, and faces the Sun. Another card of movement and change, because the 6 of Wands is Reversed, it is facing away from the Queen of Cups, a card of deep feeling and/or parenthood. Meanwhile, the Sun is a card of joy, but also youth and vigor. The position of this Reversed 6 of Wands may be telling us that Jenny is tired of the responsibilities of her job and wants something with less stakes attached. Then again, because the shift of focus is from a mature, adult type card to a child-like card, Jenny may be feeling some sort of midlife crisis.
Where do all of the Reversed cards point? If this card was a map, the Reversed cards would all be facing West, a direction known for sunsets. No matter what other advice cards might tell Jenny to wait, reflect, or even stay in the job, the matter is certain—she is ready to sunset her position and start something new. She’s ready for a new day.

The Advanced Tarot Intensive will explore:
* Identifying themes and answering the “Unasked” question
* Deepening understanding of Reversals and positioning
* Designing spreads to support specific questions
* Supporting challenging querents
* Exploring ethics in reading
When and Where:
Saturday, November 14th and Sunday, November 15th, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. While the sessions will be recorded, attending live is strongly encouraged as participants will be utilizing hands-on practice for themselves and other participants. Intensive will be held by Zoom.
Fee:
-$320 for full weekend. $160 due upon acceptance to secure place. Final $160 due by November 4.
