I’m fresh back from Direbrook where, again, I heard this:
“I don’t know if I’m ready for the Morrigan!”
I’ve written about this before. How can anyone ever be truly ready for ANY deity? They’re deities! They’re powerful! Even the “gentle” ones will shake your life up!
But the Morrigan in particular has a reputation as one you need to be “ready” for. There is a broad assumption that she will destroy things in your life, challenge you in terrifying ways, or just plain scare you.
What Most People Misunderstand About The Morrigan:
In her mythology, she does the following:
- Strategizes with her people to thwart the opposition
- Summons her people to rise when they get tired
- Moves between the worlds to share information
- Issues warnings (many of which go unheeded…)
Does she show up in scary forms in these myths? Absolutely! But she’s not showing up in a scary guise to upset an otherwise peaceful situation. She comes in with her terrifying attributes when things are in dire straits and most importantly, when a scary guise is called for.
With that in mind, if you feel the Morrigan is calling you, why WOULDN’T you want to answer?
These thoughts and questions have inspired my newest workshop. Whether or not you feel the Morrigan is calling you, her mythology has things to teach us about working together to overcome troubling obstacles.
