Last week, someone asked me about a collective appeal to the Morrigan, to save us in this time.

I had to break some bad news to this person: No Goddess is coming to save us.

On one hand, I get it. We’re in a scary timeline. I won’t drag us down by listing all the reasons, but I can probably safely assume that anyone reading this could name something that is unnerving them at the moment.

But the bad news is on the other hand: My Goddess journey has taught me that looking for any Deity to “save me” is limiting at best…harmful at worst.

The idea of a Savior Deity is very much a Christian concept, and it’s one of the most harmful tenants of that faith. Inserting a Goddess in the place of that Savior God doesn’t undo this harm. Placing Gods as Saviors keeps us in the mental habit of looking to people more powerful than ourselves to “save the day.”

A Savior Deity Mindset Is The Breeding Ground For Fascism

Outside of Christianity, many religious are full of Gods who make mistakes, cause problems, fix problems, cause more problems, and ultimately learn lessons that we can all learn from. Their stories are those of human history, but also those of lessons learned.

The Gods aren’t here to save us. In fact, it’s possible that they can’t.

So what good are they?

Here is the Good News…

Goddess worship can open our minds to wisdom and methods to addressing our own problems. These Deities can provide roadmaps to solutions, but they do us no favors by removing obstacles for us (and that may not even be possible!)

When we look to Deities for wisdom, but not to fix things, we retain our sovereignty.

When we watch for their signs, we notice solutions.

And if you’re already on this journey but find yourself still feeling lost, It’s also fine to ask the Goddess to speak a little louder. ***Just be prepared for a volume you may not expect!
