Two days ago, I was offered an opportunity.
I can’t share the details yet, but it’s INCREDIBLE.
When I got it, my mind went to a familiar place: “Wait! No! Not now! It’s not the right time! What will I do about (xyz)? What if (insert name) doesn’t want me to do it? Will people think I’m wrong for this??? This can’t be right!!!!”
Despite the initial freak-out-resistance, I responded:
YES.
In my Shadow work later, I explored how many times I’ve said no because I “wasn’t ready.” Or I didn’t know how I would get to the end result. Or because I was afraid other people would criticize me.
How many gifts from the Universe have I labeled “Return to Sender”?
I don’t want to think about it.
When a true opportunity arises, we often hesitate.
“We’re not good enough.” “We’re not ready enough.” “We didn’t think it would happen so soon.” “We had given up on it.”
Sometimes, it’s not up to us. For whatever reason, an opportunity found us.
Sometimes, “no” has a place.
For me, no is important when I realize I’m forcing myself to say yes because I feel I “should,” or out of fear that I’ll never get another opportunity, or because I hate potentially disappointing people, or because I didn’t want to admit my limits. It’s also been important when I’ve “passed the mic” to an under-represented voice or source culture voice.
But for me, “no” is best when it’s an exception, not a rule.
I challenge you, my Witchy friend:
Say yes even when…
…you don’t know how.
…you can’t explain why, but it feels right.
…you feel you don’t deserve it (spoiler alert: you DO.)
…you might fail.
…you might succeed.
YES is the most powerful word in Magick.
Say yes. Just say yes.
Opportunities are never convenient.
But somehow, obstacles make space for the right opportunities.
