Why read Tarot when the world is falling apart?

I think about this when I’m doom-scrolling, listening to the news, or pass a bumper sticker or billboard (you KNOW which ones I’m talking about…) that make me have just a little less faith in humanity.
What’s the point? Shouldn’t I be out burning down the system and rebuilding a better world?
And yet, I keep going back to my old pack of Tarot cards: shuffling and pulling.
When I wonder what the point of Tarot is in these times, I remember:
It’s A Moment With A Loved One
This world keeps us sooooo busy. And so often when we’re with our loved ones, we’re often on our phones or streaming something on a bigger screen. Tarot takes us out of that. We have to focus on the images and communicate our visions. It breaks us out of the mould. It allows us to deepen our connections.
It’s A Moment With Myself
When I pull cards for myself, I am able to connect with what matters to me the most. I’m not thinking about clicks, the budget, or whether I’ve responded to the right email in a timely manner. I’m thinking about what makes me truly happy, as well as what makes me sad.
It’s A Chance To Connect With Intuition
When we’re so busy and our heads so full of data, fear, and trauma, we start to look for answers outside of ourselves. Looking for outside answers has its place, but if we lose connection to our inner knowing. When I read Tarot, I stay in touch with that part of me that looks at something and says “That’s not right…” or “Something feels off.” Having those feelings could not be more crucial than they are now. We need to spot something and say, “That’s wrong.”
It Helps Me Remember Who I Am
Not the author, the content creator, or even the event organizer. Reading Tarot roots me to what started the journey in the first place: The strange little girl with a curiosity about mystery and Magick.
It Reminds Me Of What I Need For The Future..And What I Already Have
When I get anxious about what the future may bring, Tarot shows me what I am able to prepare for, and also reminds me of what I do have. Those things usually include love, support, and vision…things that no economy or world events can ever take away!
