At this time of year, Ancestors may be all the rage. Many Witches connect with them at Samhain or Halloween. Meanwhile, practices of Dia De Los Muertos beautifully influence minds and thoughts throughout the world, whether these minds identify as Witches or not.
But what if you had troubling relationships with your Ancestors? What if connecting with your Ancestors is painful or even traumatic? What if you’re finding yourself blocked when you try to connect with your Ancestors? What if you simply don’t want to?
Do Witches HAVE to connect with their Ancestors?
No.
Don’t get me wrong…Ancestor veneration and Magick is incredibly powerful and can bring wonderful results to practitioners. But it is not a requirement. I know plenty of excellent Witches who “only say hello at Halloween” and don’t reach out again for the rest of the year. And there are plenty of powerful Witches who never build relationships with their Ancestors at all.
Ancestor work is powerful. But it’s not required.
If you don’t want to build a relationship with Ancestors now, or ever, you don’t have to. You’re not a “bad” Witch for not engaging Ancestor work or veneration. You are simply a Witch who does other things.
