Have you heard these? Let’s clear some things up!
What is the meaning of Dark Goddess? What is dark Goddess energy? What does the Goddess of Darkness do?
In these wild times, more people are feeling pulled to Goddesses of death, destruction, warfare, the underworld, and otherwise.
These Goddesses are often called “Dark Goddesses.” Examples include Hekate, The Morrigan, Lilith, Kali…to name just a few!
Perhaps you’ve felt pulled toward (or more!) of them and decide to do a little research and find yourself running into sooooooo much fear mongering! (Thanks, but no thanks, TikTok!!!)
I’m no stranger to these misconceptions.
I’ve pasted a few choices ones below along with a few thoughts!
Three Dark Goddess Misconceptions:
“1.) You can only approach a Dark Goddess if you have NO FEAR.”
Fear is not a problem. Fear is natural to anything we are doing for the first time…whether that’s trying to cook a new recipe or connecting with a brand-new Goddess. And, frankly, mythology around Goddesses includes people being friggin’ terrified to approach them but doing it anyway.
Fear is information about the self. No one needs to shed all of their fear before approaching a new Goddess.
At the same time, fear should NOT take the lead…
“2.) If you want a relationship with a Dark Goddess, you have to commit your whole life to her OR ELSE.”
Sadly, this is dramatic rhetoric meant to scare you away from exploring a new path. Dark Goddesses are not “soul-collectors.” Simply saying a prayer, making an offering, or even building a regular spiritual practice around a Dark Goddess does not mean you are bound to be “trapped” in some kind of “service” to this Deity. The relationship you have with any Deity is exactly what you make it.
Then again, if you PROMISE to devote your life to them…that’s a different story…
“3.) If you embrace a Dark Goddess YOUR LIFE WILL BE CHAOS”
This one has some merit to it…but lacks context!
Whenever we invite any Deity into our life, they are going to look around and make some changes. Dysfunctional relationships are likely to go away. Dead-end jobs may evaporate. We may suddenly develop an aversion to a habit that wasn’t good for us. None of these changes are likely to feel great in the moment and they might feel a little chaotic, but it’s all for the good. Compare it to doing a deep-cleaning/de-cluttering of your house. You make a bigger mess in the short-term to have a cleaner, tidier home in the long-run. That’s a better description of the “chaos” that might (but not necessarily) ensue when you connect with any Goddess…especially a Dark one!
That being said…the messier the “house,” the more “short-term mess” will be needed to clean it.
