As the year winds down, we’re starting to think of what we’re going to do with ourselves once the clock strikes 12 on NYE. Start a business? Go back to school? Finally drop that toxic situationship? Just be ourselves…but more ourselves?

Below I’ve listed a brief break-down of what the general suits mean when casting for your New Year’s focus PLUS a brand-new spread on determining where your focus may want to be in several different areas of your life.

The Tarot Break-Down
What should your focus be for 2025? Draw a card! Use the guide below to help you determine where your focus ought to be. Unless you’re absolutely in love with using reversals, focus only on upright cards for this exercise!
Major Arcana Cards: Getting any of these means a milestone is coming this year. Expect to face a major challenge and/or receive a major opportunity (keep in mind that opportunities and challenges are often one in the same!). E.g., The Fool It’s the year to take the leap, even if it’s into the unknown. Take the new job. Move to the new place. Try being single or try getting more serious with that special someone. You’ve got this.
Pentacles: Money and health in focus. It’s time to fill the coffers, financially and physically. E.g., 8 of Pentacles It’s a nose to the grindstone year! Focus on saving money and refining your marketable skills.
Cups: Emotions and relationships in focus. This is the year for healing, deepening and/or building new friendships, romantic connections, and family bonds. It may also be a year to either seek therapy or work on breakthroughs in therapy. E.g., Page of Cups Focus on listening deeply to what others are saying…and even more on what they’re not saying.
Wands: Creative and/or sensual energies to the forefront! Do you have an idea that’s been lurking in your mind for some time? Are you curious about exploring more of your sensual side? This is the year to focus on the things that drive you—creatively or sensually! E.g., 3 of Wands Look out at the world and identify a few things on your bucket list. Make them happen this year!
Swords: Cutting things away, sharpening discipline. Whether it’s quitting a bad habit, eliminating debt, or cleaning out your attic, Swords say this is the year to cut things away with abandon. E.g., 2 of Swords This year, focus on saying “no” to anything that interferes with your goals and personal progress. The bigger task may be to identify what that is.
