What does the Page of Pentacles mean in a Tarot reading? What does the 9 of Swords mean in a Tarot reading?

A TikTok follower wondered whether someone had a crush and pulled the Page of Pentacles and 9 of Swords.

“Huh????”

I get it. Odd pairings in Tarot readings can leave us super confused! But there is a simple trick to figuring out the answer in an unlikely pair of Tarot cards.

Here’s the thing: The most cryptic readings are typically answered by asking another question.

The question the querrent had: Does he have a crush?

The cards they pulled: Page of Pentacles and 9 of Swords

Neither one of these naturally indicate romance, so now we break it down as though the cards were a sentence:

1.) Start with the general meanings of the card as you understand them:
Page of Pentacles: Something new. A valuable item. A gift.
9 of Swords: Sadness. Despair.

2.) Pull together the words for the most logical sentence, e.g. (you may need to add a few words to make it make sense):
Something new gives something sad.
An offering received provokes despair.
(
Also consider building a sentence out of the contrasts or similarities of the card): One bright thing creates dark tears.

These sentences suggest there is something new and bright, but also something sad to this answer. For more clarification, it may be the reader’s next task to ask some follow-up questions of the querrent such as:

How would them having a crush impact you? Would you be sad?”
”Is it possible that the object of their affections might hurt them?”
”If you were hoping to be the object of their crush, how would you feel if you were to learn that you weren’t?”

In short, the deeper question isn’t whether or not the person in question has a crush, but rather whether the answer is to the querrent’s liking:

  • If the querrent was hoping that the person has a crush (whether on them or someone else), the person probably does NOT have a crush.
  • If the querrent was hoping that the person does NOT have a crush, then this reading affirms that the person DOES have a crush

Sometimes, the answer is embedded in the creation of another question!
